Jared Simard

Guide, GRAUES
Jared Simard is a Ph.D. Candidate in Classics at The Graduate Center, CUNY. His dissertation, "Classics and Rockefeller Center: John D. Rockefeller Jr. and the Use of Classicism in Public Space," examines the influence of Classics and the ancient world on Rockefeller Jr. and his philanthropy, and also analyzes the reception of classical mythology in the artwork of Rockefeller Center. Jared received an MA in Classics from The Graduate Center, CUNY, and received a BA in Classics and History from the University of Pittsburgh (Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa). He teaches Classical Mythology, The Greek and Latin Roots of English, Roman Civilization, and Beginning Latin 101 and 102 at Hunter College, CUNY. Select data on classical mythology in post-antique art can be found on his website Mapping Mythology, a long-term research project. His scholarly interests include Latin poetry and personification, mythology in the arts, reception studies, and digital humanities.

Solomon Cohen

Solomon Cohen grew up in Paris and New York and is currently student at the Lawrenceville School. After participating in the Living Latin in Rome's innaugural high school program in 2012, Solomon helped organize the visit of papal Latinist Reginald Foster to the New York area in 2012. Solomon speaks French, German, and Italian and enjoys Roman history, especially Livy.

Amy has a A.B. in Classics from Princeton University, with a particular interest in classical political and ethical philosophy. Her senior thesis investigated Plato's views and practice of rhetoric among his corpus, specifically in the Gorgias, the Phaedrus, the Laws, and ultimately in the Republic. She is an alumna of Living Latin in Rome, 2011. In the summer of 2014, she administrated and taught Paideia's program Aequora, in partnership with Still Waters in a Storm (Bushwick, NYC). Amy is a current Rome Fellow for the year 2014-2015, as well as an assistant instructor for Living Latin in Rome (High School). Next year, she will pursue an M.St. in Ancient Philosophy at the University of Oxford.

Gene is one of Paideia's Classical Tour Managers. He received his B.A. in Classics from the University of California, Berkeley in May of 2013. He participated in Living Latin in Rome in 2013 and Living Greek in Greece in 2012 and 2013, and Living Latin in Paris in 2013. He was Paideia's Rome Fellow for 2013-2014. He is currently a visiting student in Germany, though he hopes to continue his education back in Rome.

Program Manager
Claire Burgess is one of Paideia's Classical Tour Managers. She has a BA in Art History from UC Berkeley, and though she did her thesis work on Romantic illustration, her heart lies with Hellenistic Greek sculpture. She currently lives in Paris, and when she's not overseeing fabulous school trips to Italy and Greece, she is most likely to be found in the Louvre or a creative writing workshop. Claire also edits Paideia's art blog.

Susan Rasmussen

Instructor, Telepaideia
Susan Thorton Rasmussen graduated from Wyoming Catholic College with a B.A. in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Latin, and is currently pursuing an M.A. in Classics through the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. She enjoys teaching Latin, and has participated in and led many Latin immersion programs and events, including several outdoor trips, week-long residential intensives, shorter workshops, and even a Latin murder mystery party. Susan is an experienced backpacker and thoroughly enjoys hiking, kayaking, and cross-country skiing, and she has served as an archery coach while teaching high school in Washington. She and her husband live in Wyoming.
